Who is this step for

Purpose: Sort each step in a process into what it’s really for, one step at a time. Judging a whole process instead of a single step is what keeps the removable work invisible.
Inputs: One process written out step by step
A walkthrough from the people who do it, in their own words
Method: Name the customer and what they came for, before judging any step
For customer work, apply three tests: would they recognize it as what they came for, does it move the case toward that outcome, is it the first correct performance of the work
For anything left, apply the requirement test: what exact requirement or risk would we violate, and who requires it?
Whatever passes neither test is process work: it exists only because of how the work is arranged
Output: Every step sorted into customer work, required work, or process work, ready for Cut it or fix it.
