Process Waste Audit
Cut it or fix it
- Purpose
- Decide what happens to each finding: by what the step is for, then by the cheapest reliable way to serve that purpose.
- Inputs
- The findings from Find the waste
- For required work, the actual rule, contract, or regulation each step traces back to
- Method
- Eliminate: stop doing it, and recover the whole cost
- Reduce or combine: do it less often, for fewer cases, or as part of something already happening
- Simplify and standardize: fewer fields, fewer approvers, one written way of doing it
- Automate: hand the remaining step to software or an agent, once it has survived the three questions above it
- Accept and monitor: an explicit decision to live with something, with a date to revisit it
- Output
- A decision and a reversal line for every finding: what changes, and what result would make you undo it.
The reasoning behind this one capability, with a worked example.
